Currently over 3,400 weekly school-related Good News Clubs are held across the nation, reaching more than 119,000 students each week. Whether meeting off campus during school hours or on campus after school, these clubs provide opportunity for children in the public schools to hear the Gospel and learn truth from God's Word.
Yes! The Supreme Court ruled in 2001 in Good News Clubs v. Milford Central School that Good News Clubs can meet in public schools after school hours on the same terms as other community groups. This was nothing short of a miracle!
Mission. In January, 2009, a vision began to develop among several members to begin a Gospel-centered outreach at our local public schools using “Good News Clubs” (GNC) and materials from Child Evangelism Fellowship – first at West Navarre Intermediate and eventually also at Holley-Navarre Intermediate.
Impact. Since 2009, 84 children have attended and heard the Gospel! We know of at least 12 children who came to make their own profession of faith – in the public schools! The ten volunteers from our church who volunteer every week bear testimony that this must be a “God-thing!” Many of the children live in difficult home situations and come to GNC having never heard the Gospel or experienced prayer or even read from a Bible – and now these are parts of their every week life.
Volunteer! We need you! While we have all of our volunteers committed to returning this next year, we hope to interest others in participating with us. In all, fifteen adults from our church have been directly involved in the schools, along with many members of our congregation who support GNC with money, snacks and drinks. For those wishing to join, there will be excellent training available this August (See Carolyn Mercer or any of the GNC leaders for more information about this).
